There are five basic religious tenets, generally called the five pillar of Islam:
v Shahadat (The profession of faith) to testify that there is no God but Allah and Mohammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah.
v Salat (Prayer) the faithful must turn towards Mecca and perform a prescribed prayer five times daily: at dawn, just after midday, asr (mid afternoon), just after sunset and before midnight.
v Siyam (Fasting): To fast during the month of Ramadan. This is the month Mohammad (PBUH) received the first revelation of the holly Quran from God.
v Zakat: An annual payment of a certain percentage from a Muslim's annual savings. Zakat can only be used for helping the poor and needy, the disabled, the oppressed, debtors and other welfare purposes defined in the holly Quran and Sunnah Mohammad's (PBUH) practices.
v The Hajj (The Pilgrimage to Mecca): The performance of pilgrimage to Mecca is required once in lifetime if the means are available.
